It has been said that the world is not black
and white but more of gray, and that is exactly
the philosophy followed by Anshu Khera who is
married to Sandeep Khera, Captain of ANZ Management.
"There are several issues that wives of
Merchant Navy officer's face, but the trick is
to turn the positives into negatives," said
the bubbly 30 something who has been married for
over 12 years. "The initial period was trying
but over the years, I've learnt to adjust pretty
well," she said.
Adjusting is definitely an understatement for
this optimistic and positive young woman who finds
the grass on her side just the right shade of
green. From honing her culinary skills to increasing
her stamina, she seems to find all the "problems"
blessings in disguise.
Chef Khera
"One of the most annoying things about my
hubby returning is his insatiable appetite. He
expects me to cook lavish dinners complete with
candles, silverware, the whole nine yards,"
Khera said. "But as much as I complain that
I spend most of my time slogging in the kitchen,
I get secret thrills out of churning out exotic
dishes and catering to him," she smiles.
Morning Blues
Merchant Navy guys have a pretty strict routine
which usually begins at the crack of dawn. For
Sandeep, this routine carries on at home as well
with him getting up at five am, even on Sundays.
"It sounds like a really irritating habit
which we should be fighting about, but it works
out for me because I'm constantly complaining
about not getting any excersise and this way we
go on long walks in the morning which are both
healthy as well bonding for us."
Busted Budget
Like many couples complain, Anshu too scrunches
up her nose when her hubby ends up messing up
the monthly budget with his vacation sheninigans.
"He's just thrilled to be back home and goes
on a shopping spree. The good thing, however,
is that he usually shops for me and our 7-year-old
daughter Raghvi," she said.
Car Trouble
Another point of contention is the car. The Kheras
have one car which is usually at Anshu's disposal.
However, when Sandeep returns, he monopolises
the vehicle and doesn't let her touch the steering
wheel. "It's just not fair. Although I can
understand his need to drive, he doesn't understand
that driving is a passion for me. We bicker constantly
about this and I don't see a way out till we get
another car!"
Strangely, this is one dark cloud that Anshu
can't see the silver lining of.
