Nine years after India gained independence and 10 years after
Subhas Chandra Bose's death', the then government, under intense
public pressure set up the first committee in 1956 to investigate
the air crash in which Subhas supposedly died.
56 years hence, a third inquiry commission is, once again,
probing the issue of what exactly did happen on August 18,
1945.
For the 1956 and 1970 probe panels, files in the possession
of Prime Minister's secretariat were made inaccessible.
With the third probe in progress, there is but one change
in the status of the files. Earlier inaccessible, the files
are now missing!
Mohd. Younis, former aide of Jawaharlal Nehru and one who
belonged to the intimate circle of the Nehru family had access
to the files. When he was under secretary in the Congress
government, Younis whisked the files away!
In the investigations concerning Subhas Bose's 'death', successive
governments, with all the powers of the land at their disposal,
have been unable to trace the files. By design or sheer lack
of will - is anyone's guess.
With Mohd Younis dead, the missing files are now, perhaps,
lost forever...
Apart from the files which disappeared from the PM's secretariat,
we have a list of the other
secret files which the government refuses to give
access to.
