When Katrina
came to town (His constituency also includes New Orleans --
the worst-hit by Katrina), it knocked Bobby Jindal out of his
home. But that didn't deter the man who represents the Louisiana
district. He was out to care for the people who had voted for
him.
As one Louisiana citizen says on the blogspot of Louisiana
Libertarian, "I believe Congressman Jindal, who is
my Congressman, has conducted himself as a statesman throughout
this whole ordeal. He has not taken the opportunity to take
partisan cheapshots, unlike other Louisiana politicians of
both parties. He was one of the very few Louisiana Congressmen
to actually secure money for flood control, where as the rest
of the delegation did nothing but complain about it."
Piyush 'Bobby' Jindal was born a Hindu in Baton Rouge but
converted to Christianity in his teens. His parents moved
to Louisiana from India just before he was born. After attending
public school, he graduated from the Brown University. After
his Masters at Oxford University and a working experience
with international consultancy firm McKinsey, he was hired
by Louisiana's governor to fix the state's healthcare problems.
In November 2004, Bobby became the first Indian American
to win a Congressional seat in 46 years -- the only other
member of the community to win an election to Congress was
Dilip Singh Saund in 1956.
