Fascinated
with airplanes and space since childhood, Adam's theme in life
has been passion, integrity and hard work. As he says, "I've
always strived to do the best I could -- whether I was painting
the house or studying in school."
While, Adam's parents are from Delhi, he was born and brought
up in Canada. He spent most of his youth in Ottawa. He completed
his Bachelors in Aerospeace Engineering from Carleton University
in 1995. After working for a year as an engineer at a local
company, Adam obtained his Masters of Science (Aeronautics)
in 1998 and PhD in Aeronautics in 2001 from California Institute
of Technology (Caltech).
Since then Adam has been associated with GE Global Research
in New York where he began working on energy and propulsion
technologies, specifically focussing on Pulsed Detonation
Engines -- a new kind of engine that has the potential of
dramatically reducing the amount of fuel used by airplanes.
For Adam, being named among the world's Top 35 young innovators
by the Technology Review is a great personal recognition.
But, more importantly, he feels, "this honour really
is a tribute to the efforts of our entire team working towards
the next evolution in aerospace propulsion."
Even though Adam's been to India just twice, he feels at
home here as soon as he gets off the plane. He enjoys Bollywood
movies (Dil Chahta Hai is his favourite) and loves
cooking and eating desi food.
