Few lives have run through such a varied gamut in so short a time and been so eventful. Protima Bedi. The almost-show-all model to the show-all streaker whose bare-dare blitz on the Bombay roads and the Juhu beach remains unmatched till date. No wonder then that the mere mention of her name brings salacious smiles on faces.

India's original flower child, she flaunted an I-care-a-damn attitude and sluiced through double standards and pseudo-morality in society. For the teen gang, she became an icon of the 1970s.

There was practically nothing she did not try in just 39 years - an open marriage with Kabir Bedi, relationships with artists, politicians, fought off ugly memories of a childhood rape and the hurt of being the unwanted child. Then the immediate and extreme switch to an Odissi danseuse who toiled with her own hands to create Nrityagram.

In her own words: "I did what I bloody well felt like doing."

It was May 19, 1962. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States was celebrating his birthday at Madison Square Garden.

The heart throb of millions, Marilyn Monroe went on to the stage in a skin-tight flesh-colored gown and sang "Happy Birthday" to the President.

Just three months later, on August 4, she was found dead in her house.

Police sergeant Jack Clemmons who had visited the scene later wrote: "Marilyn was lying face down in what I call the soldier's position."

"Her hands were by her side and her legs were stretched out perfectly straight. It was the most obviously staged death scene I have ever seen.

The pill bottles on her bedside table had been arranged in neat order and the body deliberately positioned, It all looked too tidy."

There are question which deepens the mystery of Monroe's death - Was her body moved from somewhere else to her house?

Was the body's position inconsistent with the reported cause of death - "probable suicide"?

If she had taken a massive dose of sleeping pills, why was there no residue in her stomach?

Several of the actress's friends contend in Monroe that she had told them about her affairs first with President Kennedy and then with Attorney General Bobby Kennedy.

She also, they say, confided in them her fears that her Brentwood, CA, house was bugged.

There is no dearth of speculations on Monroe's death.

Some say, the Kennedy brothers yielding to political pressure dumped her. and they definitely had something to do with her death.
