After the debacle of Mera Naam Joker, Raj
Kapoor more or less switched over to a greater quotient of sex and
sleaze in his films. His films started concentrating on over sexuality
with films like Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Ram Teri Ganga
Maili, which marked a major deviation in the way the lead women
in his films were portrayed.
However he next produced Bobby (1973), a launch pad for his
second son, Rishi Kapoor, and Dimple Kapadia, who became a rage
soon after its release. Bobby, a love story that that took
the younger generation by storm, was treated very differently. The
success of the film not only bailed out the RK Studio's from the
financial crunch but also induced the filmmaker to try new subjects,
and perhaps intersperse it with more sex to earn profits!
Bobby is still considered as one of the best teeny-bopper
love stories and newer films still have to match up to its youthful
vibrancy.
Then came Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978), where he revisited
the story of Aag and once again tried to prove that inner
beauty is more important than the physical - but the theme of the
story got lost in the sensuous curves of Zeenat Aman. It turned
out to be one of the sexiest films of the era.
Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985), most remembered for starlet
Mandakini's waterfall scene, proved to be his last film.
