Seductresses of the Seventies:
The 70s heralded a bold new era
for Indian cinema. The women were well aware of their sexuality and flaunted
it to the max.
Westernised stars like Zeenat Aman
and Parveen Babi redefined the look of
the new woman. They were voluptuous
but had well-toned bodies and had a
distinct Western flavour to their
look and mannerisms.
With the arrival of the 'Angry
Young
Man', Amitabh Bachchan, movies increasingly became more action-
oriented and the role of the woman
was that of a mere glam doll, but
Shabana Azmi changed all that with
her realistic portrayal of a woman
dependent on her husband's
killer in Ankur.
