For the love of music

I ’m 16-and-a-half years old,” says Radhica Pardiwala, the youngest of the six Voice of Mumbai semi finalists, guilelessly when asked her age.

A twelfth grade student, Pardiwala read about the contest one morning and asked her mother if she could compete. A complete fresher, the young singer stepped on stage for her very first audition ever, with an anxious mother pacing around in the waiting area.

Her melodious, thin voice found favour with the judges and she admits that all her family and friends were as surprised as she herself was with the day’s results.

“I’d only gone for the experience, I never expected to make it especially since there were such talented singers competing,” she exclaims.

Nervous but excited about D-Day, Pardiwala is now skipping her classes to rehearse with her mother, an amateur singer herself. Besides Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, she says she loves Alisha Chinai’s voice and style and has now shortlisted songs from Devdas and Sur to sing at Chitrakoot Grounds on August 24.
