Swati Snacks - An abiding favourite

By Razvin Namdarian

One would not expect a snack joint to be packed at lunch time but that’s just the way it is with Swati Snacks.

No matter what time of the day you visit, there will always be a queue of people ahead of you. Grab a menu and decide your selection before you are seated: that seems to be the order of the day. Steel tables bustle with people enjoying the wonderful fare and the waiters function with surprising speed.

The menu, of course, includes the usual suspects of chaat like bhel puri and dahi sev-puri. The main reason why people come here is the exclusive Gujarati delicacies that practically no other restaurant has been able to duplicate. These include the panki which is thin layers of besan steamed between banana leaves and served with chutney and specially marinated chillies.

The dal dhokli is also quite popular as are the panoli and satpadi rotis with gattu nu shak. The fada ni khichdi is quite filling if you are looking for a meal. For dessert you could indulge in the malai malpua or one of their special ice creams with flavours like coffee and thandai coconut.
