Former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta's revelations about the flesh trade in Jammu and Kashmir and those who lured her into it have prompted police to widen their investigations in the racket.

The probe has revealed that many like Anara were in the flesh trade. It was not immediately known whether they too were part of the ring that made pornographic movies like the ones featuring Anara.

"But one established fact is that many girls in Jammu of all communities were involved in the racket," said a police officer.

According to Anara's own admission, what she has revealed is just the tip of the iceberg about the sleaze business in Kashmir.

The sex scandal has dominated newspaper columns and local TV news channels and is currently the most discussed topic in local circles.

Anara, who has been granting interviews to the media after she was picked up by police a week ago and then formally arrested a couple of days ago, told IANS: "I am the victim of my ambition."

She gave scornful looks to Narinder Kohli -- a cable TV operator she has accused of luring her into the flesh trade with dreams of making her a star on the big screen.

"First he raped me, then played on my body and ambitions and finally blackmailed me to make me a permanent part of the flesh trade.

"That dream (of success in the films) has become a nightmare for me. But I am not going to give up. I will expose all the faces and possibly names of the men who ruled over my body," she told reporters.

The beautiful girl, whose voice filtered through a pink scarf with which she masked herself, exposing only her eyes, said Kohli took advantage of her ambitions and ravaged her before supplying her to others.

Before that, however, Kohli a made a pornographic film of her with a man whom he had presented as a big producer.

"The blackmail continued till the time police picked me up," Anara said, narrating how one foul after another was played on her.

The police investigators said their probe had brought to light the squalid fact that there were many more ambitious girls trying to make it big overnight by joining the flesh trade.

They said Anara's claims were one side of the story. "She has omitted the part of her own willingness," said an officer. "This is also true of many girls in the flesh trade.

"These girls come from all classes and professions. Some of them are students, housewives, journalists and from other professions as well," he said.

The officials said some girls joined the flesh trade to make easy money and others to realise their dreams of fame and stardom as fast as possible.
