| Dear Sir,
Your “New Muslim” series is an excellent attempt to portray a positive image of religious Muslims which they rightly deserve. I would like to suggest the name of Dr Javed Jamil for a feature in the series. Dr Jamil is a product of Lucknow Medical College and is Executive Director of a hospital in Saharanpur. But he is now internationally known as a thinker especially as an Islamic scholar. His contribution in developing a full discipline of Islamic studies which he calls Applied Islamics is unique. Applied Islamics studies the relevance of Islamic principles in the current world and examines current international developments in the light of Quran. He has authored more than a dozen books including books of great relevance like Islam means Peace, Family Welfare in Islam, Islamic Mode for Control of AIDS, The Killer Sex and The Devil of Economic Fundamentalism. He played an unparalleled role in changing the perceptions of Indian Muslims regarding Family Planning. His latest work, “Scientific and Social theories derived from Quran” is being serialized for internet readers these days and is attracting the attention of readers all over the world. He has thousands of admirers all over the world countries like America, Canada and Australia. He was invited as Overseas Guest in Australian Multicultural Eid Festival at Sydney three years back which was inaugurated by the Governor General of Australia. He was invited last month by Iranian government to the International Quranic exhibition and seminar at Tehran where he was the only one to represent India. |

| It's really a good step taken by Hindustan Times towards a healthy and timely discussion on a topic that’s very apt in the present scenario. I believe more than the discussion on people who have done good and are “fortunately” Muslims, it would be better and more effective to have a discussion on the very fundamentals of the religion called Islam.
I strongly believe that now is time when a revolution is required for the whole Muslim community to first understand Islam and then go and talk about it with confidence, grace and certainty. Islam should be described as a way of life and the most simple religion to follow. Muslims not only in India but around the globe, who have the ‘right’ knowledge about it, are in themselves representatives of the religion that’s so simple, peaceful and truly lovable.
I am a Muslim who would like to glorify my religion and am extremely proud and lucky to be born as a Muslim, but at the same time would like to emphasize on the plight of the majority of Muslims who are lacking in education and to be true, they lack the basic and true knowledge about there own religion. Islam emphasizes on learning and making efforts to be aware, but not many people follow this.
I want to make a genuine call to all the people who know and follow the true Islam, to join me in spreading awareness. |

| I am a Hindu from North India and have several Muslim friends in India and the US, including some from Pakistan. I have found that they are nicer than many of my Hindu friends, and I believe they represent the silent majority in the Muslim community. Unfortunately, they are really "silent" and all the noise comes from a tiny fraction of trouble making Muslims. HT's New Muslim series is a wonderful idea to give voice to Muslims in the mainstream of society. It highlights their diversity and counterbalances any negative image that they may have. I commend HT for starting this forum and hope it gets expanded. |

| It's for the first time that a media house has presented a very positive side of Indian Muslims. HT's stories are inspiring for not just Muslims, but every Indian who wants to make a mark. Girls like Samina and Zarina are our country's pride. Hats off to them and everyone else who was featured in the New Muslim series. |

| The New Muslim series is an excellent idea. I only wish it had been thought of 10 years ago. Divisions among Muslims and the rest have grown considearbly since then, and Muslims are looked upon by many as downright dangerous. The silent majority among them are cowed down, and their voices muzzled by the din created by fanatics. HT's series is a great step forward in depicting Muslims as belonging to the mainstream. |

| To grow and be a part of success, you have to change, whether you are a Muslim, a Hindu or you belong to any other community. The changing face of the new generation Muslim community is making India proud and we are happy to have them with us. They are finally shining.
I would like to raise a toast for this new society and hope that they have many more followers all over the world. No religion is bad. It's the people who give it a bad name. |

| Islam does not prohibit anyone from educating themselves. Islam has always encouraged people, irrespective of their gender, to attain knowledge and education. It is we Muslims that create obtacles for ourselves. |
