Jennifer
Capriati stormed into the tennis world as a teenager, fell
apart after that and almost lost her way before returning
to women's tennis as a wiser individual.
Though she didn't win a grand slam title soon after her debut,
she became, at the age of 14, the youngest women's semifinalist
at the French Open in 1990. In 1992, she became the youngest
semifinalist at Wimbledon. She looked firmly on the path of
tennis glory when she beat stalwart Steffi Graf to claim the
Gold in the 1992 Olympics. But then the pressure got to her
and she fell apart. She was caught for shoplifting in 1993
and arrested for the possession of drugs soon after that.
When many had dismissed her as a burnt out case, she made
a comeback in the late nineties and went on to win her first
grand slam, the Australian Open in 2001. She won the French
the same year and successfully defended her Australian Open
title in 2002.
