Punjabi pop singer Gursewak Mann on Tuesday surrendered before the police and was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the local court. However, the court later recalled its orders and granted him bail.
Mann has been charged with allegedly taking pictures of a girl in a washroom at Hotel North Park here. After Mann gave himself up, the police produced him before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A.D. Gaur.
The singer’s lawyers pleaded for bail, stating that both Sections 294 and 354 of the IPC, under which Mann has been charged, were bailable. But the court said it was convinced Section 354 was non-bailable because of the recent amendments and in structed that Mann be remanded in judicial custody.
It also issued a notice to the prosecution on his bail application. Thereafter, the police escorted Mann to the Ambala jail. However, an hour later, Mann’s counsel appeared before the court again, saying Section 354 IPC was still bailable as the Haryana gov ernment had not yet approved the amendment.
The court issued instructions for Mann’s release on a bail bond of Rs 20,000.
