"I don't have any remorse over the massacres carried out by Ranvir Sena in its fight against naxalite groups and their supporters, particularly among land-less poor and backward Dalits"

--(Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Singh, mastermind of 36 massacres that left 400 dead, said after he his arrest in Patna on Aug 29.)

I would like to emphasise on the need to mount well-coordinated anti-Naxalite operations by the states. If necessary, this should be done under a unified command

-- Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Feb 8, 2003)

"Naxalism is a crime against humanity akin to untouchability. It is the enemy of development and tries to gain intellectual legitimacy by exploiting plight of poor and the weak. A non-political and nationalist approach is needed for this problem"

-- LK Advani (June 15, 1998)

"Naxals are opposing development work (in Andhra Pradesh) because they want their areas to remain backward. Therefore, people don't support them these days"

-- N Chandrababu Naidu (AP CM, Feb 8, 2000)

"There are some sort of Naxal activities but it's mostly goondaism. Naxalites here have no ideology here (Jharkhand). There is no link between missionaries and naxalites"

-- (Jharkhand CM Babulal Marandi, Jan 14, 2001)
