With 20 more deaths, the toll in the recent spell of floods in Bihar on Tuesday rose to 675 even as the relief operations by the Army was halted with an improvement in the overall situation.
State disaster management department sources said reports of 20 more deaths poured in from Darbhanga (5), Sitamarhi (8) and Samastipur (7) in the last 48 hours, taking the toll in the current spell of floods to 675.
The state government had asked Army personnel to halt relief operations in the flood-hit areas from today, the sources said.
IAF helicopters were requisitioned this time perhaps for the longest period of one month for dropping of food packets in the affected areas.
Over two crore people spread over 9336 villages in 20 districts had been affected by floods that had caused extensive damager to crops and property, the sources said.
According to a central water commission report, all major rivers continued to maintain receding trend and were flowing below their danger marks along their course in Bihar.
