THE BAHUJAN Chhatra Sabha (BCS) served a memorandum to the Allahabad University vice-chancellor on Tuesday. Before giving the memorandum, AU students organised a conference at the union hall under the auspices of BCS on Tuesday.
BCS convenor Shiv Babu Saroj said that the conference was held to discuss the students’ problems including grant of scholarship to SC/ ST students, removal of restrictions on admission to research programmes based on the rule of one teacher over 6 students and only two students per year, appointment of teachers and employees of the SC/ST quota and reservations for SC/ST candidates in research programmes. The memorandum referred to the VC was handed over to the chief proctor.
Saroj said the students would go on fast unto death if their demands were not taken into consideration within two days. Pawan Rao, Susheel Gaykwad, Anil Pal, Lalaram Saroj and many other students attended the conference.
Union magazine: AU publishing secretary Kalpana informed that entries to the student union magazine were open. All original creations by the students should reach the publishing secretary’s office by February 25.
AUWU meet: Allahabad University Workers Union (AUWU) north zone vice president Mohan Chandra Dungarial said that the national executive meeting (NEC) of the All-India University Employees’ Association would be held at Jokh Dharmashala, Gole Market, Cannaught Place in New Delhi on February 18 and 19.
A delegation will meet the UGC chairman and HRD Minister Arjun Singh after the meeting to discuss the 11- point charter of demands. The meeting will review the November 7 programme which was observed as the ‘Demand Day’.
