A 26-year-old man allegedly raped his landlady’s daughter, a minor, on May 18 and fled the residence in a locality under Sahibabad police station of Ghaziabad. The incident came to light when the 10-year- old girl complained of abdominal pain to her widowed mother who then took her to a doctor for a check-up.
The incident is alleged to have taken place on the night of May 18 when the girl was in her house and their tenant, Amit Kumar, took her to his room when his family members were not home. He then allegedly raped the girl and threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone, the police said.
The girl did not reveal the incident to her mother but suffered health issues subsequently.
“For the past couple of days, she had been complaining of abdominal pain and was not keeping well. Then, I took her for a medical check-up to a doctor in Sahibabad. The doctor raised suspicion of an untoward incident with the girl and asked me to lodge a police complaint into the matter,” the girl’s mother stated in her complaint.
“Later, I went to the police station and lodged an FIR. Amit is not home since the day of the incident and is yet to return. The girl said that she called her to his room and raped her,” the mother said.
Following a complaint filed at Sahibabad police station, the police lodged an FIR of rape and also imposed sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against the accused, who is from Lucknow and works as a contractual employee with a government department in Ghaziabad.
“The accused has been identified and a team has been formed to arrest him. Since he is an acquaintance of the family, he was able to lure the girl to his room. He will be arrested soon,” said Akash Tomar, superintendent of police (city).
The police have also sent the girl for a medical examination and are awaiting the reports in order to solidify the case against the accused.
