Four men, who allegedly kidnapped two Amity University students on April 30, were nabbed by the Uttar Pradesh special task force and the Noida Police on Thursday. The students had been released after their parents paid a ransom of Rs. 85 lakh.

According to police, two BBA students, Kunal and Sahir, were kidnapped from near their college while returning home in their Mercedes C-class car.

“Two men in police uniform stopped the car for checking. When the students stepped out, they were kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to Meerut,” said Arun Kumar, ADG (law and order).

Police said the kidnappers only targeted people in luxury cars so they could get a ransom of at least Rs. 50 lakh. “The kidnappers asked for Rs. 1 crore from Kunal’s family and Rs. 50 lakh from Sahir’s family, but after negotiations, they settled for Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 35 lakh,” Kumar said. After receiving the ransom call, the families alerted the police.

On May 1, the families paid the ransom and the students were released in Ghaziabad.

On Thursday, the cops, who had been tracking the four culprits, arrested them when they gathered in Surajpur to divide the money.

Two of the accused are B Tech graduates, the third is a physical instructor, while the fourth is a gold medallist javelin thrower.

During interrogation, they confessed to kidnapping another student travelling in an Audi from around the same location one-and-a-half months ago. They released him after getting a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh.
