More than 600 youth secured employment at a job fair held by the state government, district administration and the district employment department, at Balak Inter College in Bisrakh, Greater Noida, on Thursday.

The fair was organised to bring in companies looking for skilled personnel and to provide an opportunity for unemployed youth of the district to get jobs.

The district administration on Friday released the list of the people who were hired by the companies that were invited to the event.

“More than a 1,000 youth had participated in the job fair where 30 companies had been invited. The applicants had already registered a few days ago. The one-day fair saw a total of 621 applicants being placed at various posts in different companies,” said Shiv Lalit Singh, district employment officer, Gautam Budh Nagar.

The district administration had invited a number of construction and manufacturing companies to the event.

“We produce electrical equipment and were looking for applicants for the post of operator and junior engineer. Our minimum requirement is a graduate degree in engineering; however a post graduate degree is an added advantage for applicants,” said Girish Dimri, HR head of Sunplast Electronic private limited.

Singh said the state government has increased the lower limit of the salaries on offer this year.

“Earlier, applicants could be hired for a minimum monthly salary of Rs7,200. This year, we have increased the lower limit to Rs7,600 and the upper limit to Rs14,000,” said Singh.

Applicants said they were pleased with the turnout of the companies this year.

“I had come from Aligarh for the fair and I think I will get placed in a good company with a decent package. I had also tried last year, but I couldn’t find a job,” said Neeraj Nagar, an applicant at the fair.
