Eight persons were injured in a compressor blast in a restaurant near a posh high-rise in Noida’s Sector 120 on Friday evening. All the eight injured persons were working in the kitchen of the restaurant when the blast occurred.
The incident took place in the Handi restaurant around 8.30pm. The blast was so intense that the windowpanes on the front side of the restaurant were shattered and the restaurant’s board fell off. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
Avnish Dixit, the station house officer of Phase-III police station said, “The blast occurred in the restaurant’s kitchen. The compressor of the freezer blew up leaving eight workers njured. Four of them were critically injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital nearby. The rest received burn injuries on their limbs and other parts of the body.”
Dixit said, “The fire has been extinguished and now the situation is under control.”
Anshul Jain, one of the resdents in the vicinity, said, “I was walking by when I heard a loud sound from commercial complex near Amrapali Zodiac market. The blast was so intense that the pieces from the window flew up to 50 metres.”
The restaurant is on the first floor of the commercial complex. The blast caused damage to nearby shops as well, onlookers said.
