The weatherman predicted a second consecutive rainy weekend in Noida and Ghaziabad after thundershowers on Friday evening reduced mercury levels to 19 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature on Friday was 31.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
“I was about to leave from office when it started pouring. I had to wait for more than an hour before I could step out to go home,” Vartika Rawat, from Sector 15 in Noida, said.
Moderate rainfall throughout the weekend and spells of heavy showers in parts of the cities are likely to reduce the minimum temperature to 18 degrees, while the maximum will hover around 28 degrees Celsius, the weatherman said.
“Chances of rain with strong winds and thunderstorm early Saturday, late afternoon and evening are high in Noida and Ghaziabad. The skies might get clear by late Sunday evening,” RK Jenamani, director–in-charge of the meteorological department at the IGI Airport, said.
The department recorded wind speed on Friday at 75kmph and there is a possibility of thunder squalls in some parts.
“It was cloudy on Friday afternoon, after which it rained heavily at 5pm. This fresh spell of rain will restrict the mercury from soaring beyond 30 degrees Celsius till Sunday,” Jenamani said.
