Armed bikers strike again, two guards shot

Armed, bike-borne robbers made a failed attempt to rob a cash van near RKGIT College around NH-58 in Ghaziabad on Friday evening. Two employees of the cash-loading firm were shot and injured in the robbery attempt.

According to a police official, the incident took place after the employees had loaded cash into an ATM kiosk installed at the premises of the college. As the van was about to leave, two bikers cornered the van, forcing it to stop. One of the bikers attempted to snatch the van’s keys from the driver.

“The robbers held the guard of the van at gunpoint and tried to take his licensed gun. When the guard retaliated, the bikers opened fire, which hit two employees of the cash-loading firm. As locals and passerby arrived immediately, the robbers escaped on their Apache and Splendor bikes,” a senior police officer said.

During the incident, guard Brijesh Kumar sustained a gun shot in his arm. Monu Kumar, the driver of the van sustained two gunshot wounds - one on his arm and the other on his chest.

“We are trying to get the CCTV footage from nearby areas to know the identity of the robbers. There have been a series of incidents of armed robberies in the past two days and we are yet to identify the robbers. Several police teams are working on the case to arrest the accused as soon as possible. It was a failed robbery attempt and no cash was taken,” said Salman Taj, superintendent of police (city).

On Wednesday, the city witnessed two armed robberies in Ghaziabad. While on Thursday another two incidents of armed robberies by bike-borne men were reported.
