The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against Saleem Bawariya, Zuber and Sajid on Monday. The trio was arrested by Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the highway robbery and gangrape incident that took place on NH-91 near Dostpur on July 29.
CBI will continue to investigate and file a supplementary report against Rais, Shavez and Jabar Singh, who were granted bail by a Bulandshahr court, and other unknown persons, the chargesheet stated. The agency filed its chargesheet on Saturday and named Saleem, Zubair and Sajid as accused. Rais, Shavez and Jabar Singh are not named in the chargesheet as their role is still inconclusive.
Sources said that the three accused have been identified by four persons from the victims’ family during an identification parade on October 24. The two rape victims had already identified Saleem and Zubair in police custody at Bulandshahr on August 9.
On July 29, a 35-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter were raped by six to seven persons in fields adjacent to the highway they were travelling on. The men were tied up and held at gunpoint.
The prime perpetrators of the incident emerged as Zuber and Saleem. The chargesheet stated that the accused had raped the woman and the girl in turns and then dumped them in their vehicle.
The three accused and other assailants later tried to escape in the victims’ car but it got stuck in the muddy fields. The accused forced the women out of the car and brought them to an adjacent field where they tied them with a saree and fled the spot.
Upon a public outcry against the horrific incident, the Uttar Pradesh police had initially arrested Rais, Shavez and Jabar Singh. Saleem, Zuber and Sajid were arrested later.
The role of the former three remains inconclusive as yet, according to the chargesheet. They were granted bail, on submission of personal bonds and sureties of ₹2 lakh each, as a chargesheet could not be filed against them within the 90-day period.
These documents were submitted by their families at Bulandshahr court on Monday and sent for verification.
The CBI had taken over the investigation on the directions of the Allahabad high court.
