Unidentified men bludgeoned a 35-year-old construction site supervisor at an under construction building near Bamheta adjacent to NH-24 on Tuesday night. The police on Wednesday morning recovered the body of the victim and a blood stained axe. The victim, Mohammad Imroz, had suffered a major injury on his head.
According to the police, Imroz was from Saharsa district in Bihar and was residing in Ghaziabad for the past few years and was presently working at a construction site of a private developer near NH-24.
“We got a call from one of our known person around 7.30am and he informed us about the murder of my brother. Some unidentified persons hit the back of his head with an axe which caused a deep fissure in the head and led to his death. He was on the first floor of the under construction building while four other persons were sleeping on the second floor upstairs,” said Firoz Alam, Imroz’s brother.
No valuable items or money was stolen from Imroz’s room and police said that it is suspected that the incident was a result of some alleged act of grave provocation.
“The mobile of the victim was also found from the bed while other valuables were also found intact. He was lying face down and had a major hit with the axe on the back of his head. The axe was also recovered from the room and seemed someone had tried to wipe it off. The assailants had also used a shaving blade to cut the strings of the mosquito net which was later found covering the dead body,” said Neeraj Kumar Singh, station house officer, Kavi Nagar police station.
For now, the police have detained four persons from the construction site in connection with the murder.
“Two of these are guards while other two are supervisors. So far, none of them have been able to tell as to what happened during the incident. However, based on complaint by the victim’s family, we have registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence,” Singh added.
The family of the victim said that he is survived by his wife and four minor children who live at their native place in Bihar.
