Two persons were killed and three others injured after a truck collided with three stationary trucks on Noida- Greater Noida Expressway near Sector 124 late Sunday.

Police said the accident took place around 11:30pm when the truck, carrying potatoes, was on its way from Aligarh to the Azadpur wholesale market in north Delhi. On reaching Sector 124, the right front tyre of the truck burst, making the driver lose control of the vehicle.

The truck skidded off the road and collided with three other vehicles that were parked along the expressway. The police said four people were standing in front of these vehicles, when the truck carrying potatoes rammed into them from behind.

All four men were bleeding profusely when local residents spotted them and alerted the police control room. A police team reached the spot and found that the driver of the truck that lost control was also injured.

They were taken to district hospital in Sector 30, where two of them were declared dead on arrival. The police identified them as Asgar, 22, a resident of Etawah and Noor-Ud-Din, 45, a resident of Farrukhabad.

The police said Mahesh, 38, sustained serious head injuries and was shifted to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi on Monday afternoon. Pradeep, 35, remained admitted at the hospital, while the third injured, Sonu, 28, was discharged after treatment.

“A case has been registered at Sector 39 police station and investigations are on. The police said the families of the deceased were alerted and the bodies sent for an autopsy,” a senior police officer said.

The officer suspect that the truck was speeding and when the tyre burst resulted in it colliding with the three stationary vehicles.

This is the second major accident on the expressway in the last one month. On May 20, a mini truck had collided with a tree near the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida. Two men who were travelling it were killed on the spot.
