As the income tax raids on Yadav Singh send alarm bells ringing among senior IAS officers, the India Rejuvenation Initiative (IRI) has demanded an SIT investigation into the case. The IRI, an organisation of serving and retired bureaucrats and other social activists, said the income tax department alone would not be able to solve the enormity of the problem allegedly involving a large number of politicians and bureaucrats of UP.
Senior IRI member Prof HC Pandey said the SIT headed by Justice MB Shah, which played a major role in unearthing black money stashed abroad, should take over the investigation.
Pandey said, “The IRI will soon write to SIT to take over the probe”.
The IRI was instrumental in the constitution of the SIT on black money and Pandey was one of petitioners in the case in Supreme Court.
Pandey said the Noida land scandal, allegedly involving Yadav Singh, needed a thorough investigation. He said just an I-T probe was unlikely to nail other “big fish” involved in the racket. Pandey said: “The I-T raid had clearly brought out the fact how much arbitrariness, corruption and loot of money has become common in administrative system in UP”
