The city police has detained a 17-year-old boy who faces allegations of raping his tenant’s eight-year-old daughter at his house in a locality under Sahibabad police station’s jurisdiction. The girl’s family had lodged an FIR of rape, criminal intimidation and under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act at Sahibabad police station on Thursday.
The family has alleged that the girl was subjected to sexual assault by their landlord’s son several times over the last month and he also threatened her not to tell anyone about it.
“She used to remain home on Sundays and the boy assaulted her after calling her inside a room. She did not tell me first, but only gathered the courage to do so when some of her friends came home to visit. She had also told them to stay away from the boy as he is not a good person,” said the girl’s mother.
“Her father is out of town. He will be returning soon. Initially, she was afraid and did not tell her mother. But she often complained of pain in her abdomen. It was only when her friends had come that she told her mother about it. Such instances have happened with her three to four times. Now, they are trying to pressurise us into taking the case back,” said the girl’s uncle.
The boy is a student of a reputed school in Sahibabad and turns 17 on Saturday. His family said the allegations are motivated as the family has been unable to pay rent.
“They did not pay rent despite our repeated reminders as the girl’s father has lost his job and is not keeping well. My son has undergone three brain surgeries since 2014 on account of a blood clot in his brain due to a previous accident. Thereafter, he also suffered a paralytic attack. He has told us that he is not involved in any such act and has been preparing for his board examinations that are scheduled to start on March 8,” said the boy’s father.
Police officials said the girl was sent for medical examination on Friday.
“We are awaiting reports of the medical examination. That will help us decide the course of the investigation. The boy has also told us about his medical history and claims innocence. We have detained him and are questioning him about the incident,” said Anup Singh, circle officer, Sahibabad.
