Fire broke out in a thermocol factory near Udyog Vihar extension in Greater Noida on Tuesday evening when 300 employees were present on the premises. No one was reported to be injured in the incident till the time of filing the report.
The incident was reported on the premises of E Pack company located near LG intersection. The fire broke out on the
first floor of the three-storey building.
“We received information of a fire at a factory near LG Chowk at 5.30pm. We immediately dispatched our fire tenders to the spot and started the evacuation process,” said Matloob Hussain, fire station officer, Sector 58. He added that the fire was brought under control by 9 pm.
According to police and fire department officials, the exact cause of fire is not known yet.
“At the time of fire, a total of 300 people were present in the building. The company owners had stored thermocol on all the floors, which is why the fire spread quickly as the product is highly flammable,” added Hussain.
Additional district magistrate Kumar Vinit and sub-divisional magistrate Rajesh Singh also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
Eyewitnesses said a minor stampede was reported outside the factory as police tried to control the crowd that had assembled. The employees had also rushed out in panic.
The fire department used 10 fire tenders to put out the flames and also sought more fire tenders from Ghaziabad.
Hussain said it was difficult to douse the fire as the firefighters had trouble entering the building due to the large amount of thermocol present.
Following the fire, police also evacuated workers from nearby buildings as a safety measure.
This is the third major fire incident to be reported in the district in the past month. Earlier, a factory -cum-office at Sector 11 in Noida was completely charred due to fire. Six people were killed in the incident as they were trapped on the third floor of the building.
After that incident, the fire department had asked companies to install fire safety equipment in their premises and follow all precautions properly. The Noida police and the fire department had also decided to conduct a fire audit of companies to check whether they were following the laid down fire safety norms or not.
