Eight days after a man’s body was fished out of a canal, his wife’s body was also identified by the police. The couple, Ved Prakash and Vimlesh, residents of Bambwad village in Badalpur, were allegedly drugged and strangled by a ‘tantric’ and his accomplice as the former wanted to marry their minor daughter.
Police said they have arrested Salman, an employee of the ‘tantric’ and main accused in the case, Pramod, who allegedly abducted the couple’s four-year-old boy and teenage daughter.
“Vimlesh’s body was found in Rabupura area last week and was preserved for identification. On Wednesday, family members identified her body,” said Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.
Police said Prakash’s body was retrieved from a canal on August 6, while his wife and two children were missing. Following relatives’ allegations, police had detained Salman, who worked at Pramod’s shop. He was later arrested and sent to jail.
“The accused Salman was arrested on Tuesday. After intense questioning, he revealed that his employer Pramod, who runs a shop in the locality and also claims to be a tantric, had orchestrated the murder to marry Ved Prakash’s juvenile daughter,” said Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.
Police said Salman drugged the couple and then strangled them with Pramod’s help. The two then dumped Ved Prakash’s body in a canal and left Vimlesh’s body on a roadside in Rabupura. While Ved Prakash’s body was found on Saturday, Vimlesh’s body was identified on Wednesday. Police have registered a case of murder and abduction against accused Salman and Pramod. The police said the role of the couple’s daughter role is also under scanner.
“The main accused of the case, Pramod, has abducted both the children of the deceased couple. He wanted to marry the girl, who is half his age. Investigators found his location at an ashram in Rajasthan, but before the police team could have reached, he fled the spot,” said Yadav.
The police believe that an insider helped the accused drug the couple, but their daughter’s role will be confirmed only when she gives a statement.
“Multiple teams are searching Pramod’s hideouts in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Both children of the couple are juvenile, hence a case of kidnapping was registered at Badalpur police station,” said the SP.
