Flawed police sketches of suspects, who robbed the Syndicate Bank in Dankaur on October 26, has landed lookalikes in trouble.

A day after the robbery, the Greater Noida police had released sketches of three of the four suspects.

Manish Saini, who works at a furniture shop near the bank, said, “A day after the bank robbery, a police team came to the shop where I work. They took me along with them to Dankaur police station where they clicked my picture and left me. I was unaware of the intention of the police. The next day, I found that my picture was published in newspapers as one of the suspects in the bank robbery case. Now, I am getting calls from my relatives over the issue.”

When HT contacted the police over the issue, they said that during investigation, one of the bank employees informed that one of the robbers resembled a man who worked at a furniture shop in the area.

“We just took a photograph of the person as he resembles one of the robbers. The sketches were released after certain modifications. We have no intention to malign the reputation of anyone,” Sanjay Singh, superintendent of police (rural), said.

Another of the three sketches looks exactly like a corporate executive who works in a multinational company in Sector 135.

“To establish my presence at the office during the time of the robbery in Dankaur, I have saved the CCTV footage from my office and other electronic records. I met a senior police officer and discussed the issue with him,” the executive said on condition of anonymity.
