The Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) allowed free passage to women drivers on the Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) Flyway from March 7 midnight to March 8 midnight on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
Over 7,000 women driving four-wheelers and two-wheelers availed the toll-free passage. They were also welcomed by toll booth attendants with flowers.
“Women drivers were greeted with a bouquet in the morning. The initiative was to mark the International Women’s Day and honour all women. It was a small gesture from our side to the women in the city,” said Anwar Abbasi, DND spokesperson.
He said the facility was availed by women driving alone as well as by those at the wheel, accompanied by friends or family.
A commuter has to pay `28 for a one-way commute in a four-wheeler and `12 for a one-way commute by a two-wheeler. On a working day, nearly 1.20 lakh commuters use the flyway.
“It saved my time as I did not have to stop at the toll plaza to pay the charge. Saving `56 on to and fro commute for a day was not very significant but I admire the spirit behind it. This made me feel special on women’s day,” said Minakshi Singh, a resident of Sector 12, whose office is in Nehru Place, Delhi.
