To make commuting hassle free on the DND (Delhi Noida Direct) Flyway, the Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) on Wednesday dedicated two lanes for radio frequency identification (RFID) tag users.
The RFID technology, which is meant to give commuters a non-stop passage through toll gates, was put in place about six months ago.
“RFID users can use any of the 32 lanes at the tolls, including gold, silver and cash lanes. We announced two dedicated RFID lanes (one in each direction) for silver RFID tag users which will enable faster passage through the toll plaza. RFID tag users will not need to halt at the pay axis and can zip through the toll gate,” said Anwar Abbasi, DND Flyway spokesperson.
In a move aimed at promoting RFID tags usage among commuters, NTBCL is organising a week-long promotional activity starting Wednesday.
As part of the week-long promotion, the company will be making promotional offers to users such as free RFID tags for the first 5,000 users with a minimum load (balance) on the tag of Rs 1,500 and users will be charged Rs 25 per passage instead of Rs 28.
“Basically, our aim is to provide non-stop commuting at toll gates. What is happening at present is that the rush in the cash lanes on both sides is delaying those having smart cards and RFID chips. So we wanted to convert cash lanes into RFID user lanes. This process will take a month,” the spokesperson said.
Abbassi said, “Since January 19, when RFID technology was implemented, thousands of cash users have converted into RFID users. We hope this number will keep increasing.”
