The Ghaziabad police on Tuesday said they have tracked the man who had allegedly raped and severely beaten up a seven-year-old girl in Loni, on the eve of a wedding ceremony on April 27. The girl had come with her family to Loni in Ghaziabad from Punjab to attend the wedding.
She was found nearly 10 hours later, the next morning, at the spot after an overnight search proved futile. She was found in a pool of blood and rushed to a hospital in Delhi where she is lodged in the intensive care unit. She has undergone two major surgeries.
The Delhi Commission for Women chief, Swati Maliwal, had also visited the victim’s family on Sunday and demanded a death penalty for the accused.
“We have tracked the person and also come across several pieces of evidence that are likely to link him to the case. He is related to the family that organised the wedding and had come to attend the function. Our teams will nab him at the earliest and all efforts are underway in the case,” Srikant Prajapati, circle officer, Loni, said.
Once arrested officially, the police will link pieces of evidence gathered from the scene of the crime to the accused. The girl’s father had already lodged a complaint and an FIR of rape and under the provision of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was filed.
The accused is stated to be aged around 26 years and had fled the scene of crime leaving the girl in a traumatic state. It is also alleged that he beat the girl up during the incident. In some indicators given to the police by the girl, the police confirmed that only a single person was responsible for the incident.
The DCW chief has also written to the chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab for their intervention. “The girl was found in a pool of blood. She was brutally raped and severely beaten. She underwent a long operation and is fighting for survival. The doctors said her situation is critical and she would need a long time to recover if she survives,” Maliwal had said.
“The culprit deserves the death penalty. He must be traced immediately by the police. I have written to the chief ministers of UP and Punjab to take cognizance of the incident and ensure strict punishment for the culprit. Since the family comes from a weak financial background, the victim should be given proper compensation so that her family can take care of her while she goes through the long recovery,” she said
