The parents of 10-year-old Arman Sehgal have demanded a CBI probe into the death of their son after he fell in the corridor of the GD Goenka School in Indirapuram on August 1.
The demand comes after the parents were given an assurance by Ghaziabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) that arrests would be made in the case by Monday.
Arman’s parents have lodged an FIR for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and destruction of evidence against the school authorities. The Sehgals have also sought public support and said they are now fighting for other students after Arman is gone.
“We don’t want other children to suffer as Arman did. Now, it is a fight for other children and people should support us. We got an assurance from the SSP that arrests would happen by Monday, but we have not been apprised of any such development as yet. The truth behind the incident should come out and we demand a CBI probe. We also want CM Yogi and Prime Minister Modi to intervene,” Arman’s mother, Swati, told reporters.
Earlier, Ghaziabad MP General (retd) VK Singh had also spoken to the Sehgals and assured them of help.
“We spoke to the family and later spoke to the district magistrate and the SSP. The DM told that there is a magisterial inquiry on. Based on the magisterial inquiry, we will seek either the CBI probe or others,” General Singh said.
The magisterial probe is headed by Rajesh Kumar Yadav, additional district magistrate (ADM - finance & revenue), Ghaziabad. The ADM will also visit the school when it reopens on Tuesday. However, Arman’s mother has said she will be holding a ‘dharna’ outside the school as the police have failed to make any arrest in the case so far.
SSP HN Singh did not take calls on Monday. However, Rakesh Kumar, circle officer, Indirapuram, said, “The police are investigating the case and are trying to collect evidence. Forensic samples have been sent for analysis.”
Earlier, the Sehgals also received support from minister Atul Garg and Gen Singh’s wife, Bharti Singh.
Swati had also led a candlelight march from Vaishali to GD Goenka School on August 4.
Arman was declared “brought dead” at Shanti Gopal Hospital after he was rushed there by the school teachers on the morning of August 1. The school claimed that he “just fell” in the corridor and died. On the other hand, his family has alleged negligence and laxity on part of the school.
The second floor corridor, where Arman fell, had no CCTV coverage. The incident spot was not sealed and it was later allegedly cleaned by the school authorities, the parents claimed.
Since the incident, the school authorities are incommunicado and the school has remained closed. Its website is also shut.
