Ghaziabad: Woman jumps before speeding truck after husband’s death

A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a speeding truck in Meerut on Sunday evening as she could not bear the loss of her husband who died in a road accident at Hapur on Sunday morning.

The woman’s husband, Usman, was driving a Scorpio and was on his way from Indirapuram to Rampur. He was ferrying Dr Mian Jan, a senior official of a private university and his wife Ayesha to their native place - Rampur. The Scorpio collided head-on with a speeding truck on the overbridge at Brij Ghat around 8.30am on Sunday.

“Their Scorpio had a head-on collision with a speeding truck and the two injured were referred to Meerut Medical College. Later they succumbed. The official’s wife also suffered severe injuries but is stated to be stable,” said sub-inspector Arvind Kumar, police-post in-charge at Garhmukteshwar.

According to the police, driver Usman’s wife Noor Jahan and her family members reached Meerut after hearing about his death. He hailed from Badalpur area of Gautam Budh Nagar.

“The grieving woman (Noor Jahan) complained of vomiting and stopped the car midway during the return journey. While she was sitting on the roadside, she jumped before a speeding truck and died on the spot. Her family members did not lodge any complaint,” said MM Baig, superintendent of police (rural), Meerut.

Officials said the incident took place under Khakhauda police station area, a couple of hours after Usman died. Police said Usman and Noor Jahan are survived by two minor children.
