The body of a 26-year-old woman was found lying several metres outside her grave at Talheta in Ghaziabad’s Modi Nagar on Friday, family members said.

“While we were into prayers after the death, a woman arrived and told us that the body of my sister-in-law was lying four-five metres away from the grave where we buried her on Thursday. We reached the spot, which is adjacent to the houses, and found the body lying outside without clothes,” the woman’s brother-in-law said.

He said the woman, who was pregnant, had fallen inside her house on Wednesday and was taken to various hospitals but could not be saved. Doctors said she had a ruptured vein that caused her death, he added.

“Earlier we suspected that some animal could have dug out the body, but there were no animal footprints found at the spot. The body was without clothes and we suspect that it could be a work of some necrophiliac,” he added.

Police and district administration officials reached the spot after receiving information and seized the body from the spot.

“When we arrived, the locals had covered the body. The forensic teams have also collected the pictures from the spot and further investigation is underway. We have also sent the body for post-mortem to ascertain the claims by victim’s family members. Family has also forwarded a complaint to police,” Atul Kumar, Modi Nagar’s sub-divisional magistrate, said.
