The class 10 girl who was shot at and the class 11 boy who had allegedly shot her and shot himself were shifted to different hospitals on Thursday.

They were admitted to Atlanta Hospital in Vasundhara following the shooting incident on Wednesday evening. The boy had allegedly shot the girl with his father’s licensed revolved in a secluded lane in Vasundhara’s Sector-4 locality. The boy later attempted suicide by shooting himself.

The girl’s condition remained critical and was shifted to a hospital in Noida.

The girl was rushed to the hospital by several men in a car while the injured boy was later found roaming around the streets by police and taken to the hospital. “She sustained a bullet injury to her head and it was fired from a close range. The bullet pierced her head deep and has damaged her entire brain. She was brought in a state of coma and shifted to other hospital in the same state. We had called several specialist neurosurgeons but they opined against operating on her as it would have proved life threatening. She was immediately put on life support system,” said Dr Hemant Garg, head of critical care at Atlanta hospital.

“Her chances of survival are bleak as she has suffered a complete brain damage. Had we operated on her, she would have gone into shock and this would have been life threatening,” he said.

The doctors said the bullet also pierced the skull and led to minor damage to the brain of the boy.

“The bullet caused a minor damage to his brain and it was not a major damage as such. He is more stable than the girl and his chances of survival are good. He was put oxygen support,” Dr Garg added.

The girl was shifted early morning to another hospital in Noida. All her family members remained at the hospital. The family is from Muzaffarnagar and staying at Vasundhara. Her father is an engineer working at a private firm.

“She is unconscious and remains in the same condition as she was on Wednesday night. The doctors are not very hopeful of her revival. She had gone for tuition and the incident took place then. We still don’t know what had happened but got to know that she was lodged in hospital in a critical condition. We are only worried about her condition and have not been able to inquire the sequence of events that took place,” her uncle said on Thursday afternoon.

The boy’s father, was remorseful and said, “We have no grudge against the girl or her family. I wish she recovers. My son’s act has ruined my family. I don’t know how he got hold of the revolver as I never allowed him access to the weapon.”
