A barber, a cook, a fast food cart owner and a mechanic were arrested on Thursday evening by the Greater Noida police for their alleged involvement in numerous robberies in Jarcha Kasba and adjoining villages.
According to the police, the four used their ‘day jobs’ as an excuse to recce the houses they wished to rob. They were arrested near the jungle area of Jarcha Kasba.
The valuables recovered from the gang include cash worth Rs1,40,000, 13 gold ornaments, one motorcycle, two car batteries and 20 silver items. The police also seized two countrymade pistols and two knives.
The arrested were identified as Imran, Sonu alias Sodak, Hasmat Ali and Shetti alias Sonu. All four are residents of Jarcha and have been involved in numerous robberies.
“Under a campaign led by senior superintendent of police Love Kumar, we arrested the four from a jungle area after receiving a tip from an informer. These four are notorious criminals and have seven cases of robbery, armed assault and under Arms Act registered against them at our police station,” said Shalendra Pratap Singh, station house officer, Jarcha police station.
According to the police, the modus operandi of the four was to do odd jobs in villages adjoining Jarcha and recce houses.
“All four do regular jobs in the daytime and use their job as an excuse to recce the house they intend to rob. Imran works as a mechanic who fixes pressure cookers and gas knobs in villages, while Sonu works as a cook at weddings.Shetti works as a chowmein vendor in different villages and Hasmat as a barber. They never enter the house through the main door, instead they use the terrace of adjoining houses to break into the house they plan to rob. They use the same technique to flee the scene,” Singh said.
The four were produced before the magistrate and sent to jail.
