The man, Gaurav Kumar, of Amroha, was picked up by the robbers near Pari Chowk in Greater Noida and dumped after an hour at Lal Kuan intersection, which falls under Ghaziabad.

The victim’s cousin, Lokendra Kumar, said that the driver stayed in Sector 45 and worked with a cab aggregator. He had got a private booking and left for Agra around 3.30pm on Saturday and returned to Greater Noida around 11pm.

“He was near Pari Chowk when a tyre of his car got punctured. When he replaced the tyre, four armed men arrived and held him at gunpoint. They dumped him on the rear seat and drove him for nearly an hour. After snatching his documents, mobile phones and Rs16,000, the robbers tied his hands and dumped him near a college in Lal Kuan around 12.15am on Sunday,” he said.

“He later sought help from some guards and called us up. We informed the police. Since Saturday night, we have been running from pillar to post in Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, but the police, both in Noida and Ghaziabad, are not ready to lodge our complaint,” he said.

During the alleged incident, the robbers also escaped with the Maruti Swift owned by Gaurav. Late Sunday evening, the officials from Gautam Budh Nagar said they have taken cognizance of the issue. “Since his family is from outside the district, we have called him and will take his complaint and register an FIR in the case,” said Suniti, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.
