The city is set to host this year’s Duleep Trophy cricket tournament at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium from August 23 to September 14.

Cricket enthusiasts will be able to watch their favourite cricketers at the stadium for free as the Greater Noida authority has decided against selling tickets for the tournament.

Yuvraj Singh, heading team India Red, Gautam Gambhir, leading team India Blue and Suresh Raina, heading team India Green, will be playing at the tournament. Other cricketers who will be playing at the tournament include Mohammed Shami, Robin Uthappa and Parthiv Patel.

The cricket matches will be played with a pink ball for the first time under floodlights as it will be a day and night match. The matches will start at 2pm and go on till about 10pm.

According to authority officials, entry to the stadium will be open for all and the parking will also be free.

“Since there is ample space in the stadium for the audience, gate number 1 will remain open for them throughout the matches. There is no seating arrangement but an open ground where the audience can sit and enjoy the match,” said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager, project, Greater Noida authority.

He added that while gate number 2 will be for the players, match officials and other accredited persons, gate number 3 will be for media persons.

According to police officials, security has been tightened in the area ahead of the tournament.

“Since many VIP guests are expected to be present at the event, security measures have been tightened at the venue. Though the entry is free for all, every member of the audience will have to go through a strict security procedure considering the safety for all,” Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar, said.

Each match will go on for four days while the final match will be of five days. “The first match will be between India Red and India Green from August 23 to 26. The second match will be between India Red and India Blue from August 29 to September 1. The third match will be between India Blue and India Red from September 4-7. The finals will be held from September 10 to 14,” said Talib Khan, an official from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association.
