A 28-year-old man, who was part of a robbery gang, was arrested on Thursday on charges of killing one of his accomplices and shooting another after a fight broke out among them over the division of loot.
The police said the accused, Kaleem, was part of a four-member gang of robbers. All of them were living at a rented accommodation in Bishanpur village of Sector 58.
On March 2, the four men — Kalim, Sajid, Raju and Sarfaraz — all aged between 27 and 30, had returned from Jaipur after a heist of Rs 8 lakh.
While discussing their share in the cash and other valuables looted from Jaipur, Raju opened fire at Sajid, the police said.
The police suspect that they were under the influence of alcohol at the time. Sajid started bleeding profusely and was rushed to a hospital.
On their way, a fight erupted again. This time Sarfaraz was shot but he managed to jump from the car. Safaraz went to Bisrakh police station and told the police that he and his friend Sajid were travelling along with Kaleem and Raju in a car when they were attacked by some people on the way.
Following his complaint, a case was registered at Bisrakh police station. Sarfaraz was also taken to hospital and given treatment.
Police said Sajid succumbed to injuries and his body was dumped near the canal in Jarcha. The mystery unfolded on Wednesday when his body was recovered from the area.
When the Bisrakh police station was contacted, the personnel there identified the body. A police team was alerted and Kalim was arrested from Sebhai village in Greater Noida.
“A murder case has been registered and we are trying to arrest Sarfaraz and Raju. All are wanted in criminal cases in different districts of Rajsthan and Uttar Pradesh,” said Vinod Pandey, station house officer, Bisrakh police station.
