The family members and relatives of slain gym trainer, Sajan Bhati, blocked traffic at Salarpur on Monday morning demanding immediate arrest of Bhati’s murderers. The family members alleged involvement of 10 persons in Bhati’s killing, while the police has arrested only two accused so far.
The 26 year-old gym trainer was murdered in front of his residence in Salarpur on the night of July 11. According to Sajan’s father Gajraj Bhati, 10 persons armed with countrymade pistols reached their residence in a Swift Dzire and a Mahindra Scorpio and opened indiscriminate fire at his son, who had just returned from his work. Sajan received six bullet injuries on his body and died on the spot.
Hundreds of men took to streets on Monday morning to protest, blocking the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Road for over two hours from 8 am to 10.30 am, before police used mild force to disperse the protesters.
Commuters had a harrowing time passing through the stretch near Salarpur on the DSC Road. “I had gone to meet a friend in Sector 71 early in the morning. When I was returning around 9.30 am, I got stuck in a jam at the T-point near Salarpur. I had to take a detour via sector 104 and then through the service road of the expressway to reach my shop,” said Anil Aggarwal, a trader at Bhangel.
The protesters alleged the three people involved in the murder of Bhati were roaming freely in Salarpur village, but police is not arresting them.
Police assured the protesters of arrests in the matter and restored the traffic flow in the area.
Arun Kumar Singh, superintendent of police (city), said, “We have arrested two men, who are key accused in the matter. We are after the others involved in the crime. Separate teams have been formed to nab the absconders and technical surveillance is mounted on the accused.”
The two, who were arrested on Saturday are identified as Pradeep Bhati, 30, and his alleged accomplice Amir, 27. Police officials said Pradeep had made the plan to eliminate his cousin, Sajan Bhati, and taken the help of six men to execute it.
The FIR was registered against Pradeep Bhati, Rishipal, Shripal, Papinder, Nitin, Rinku and Kalu and three unidentified men.
During questioning, Pradeep told the police that a disputed piece of gram sabha land occupied by Pradeep and Sajan’s family was the reason behind the murder.
Police said Pradeep had constructed some shops on the land and rented them out, from which he would earn Rs 30,000 per month. However, when Pradeep started renovating the shops last month, Sajan forced him to stop, claiming his share, according to the police. After that, Pradeep shifted to Greater Noida and started a business with someone identified as Malkhan, officials said.
Police said Pradeep told them he had invested Rs 6 lakh in the business, but Sajan broke up the deal after taking Malkhan into confidence. Pradeep was upset over the financial losses and decided to eliminate Sajan, police added.
