In a first, the Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) has announced that the Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) Flyway will be toll-free for 24 hours from March 7 midnight to March 8 midnight on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
All women drivers will be exempted regardless of the vehicle they are driving. Toll operators have been directed to put a notice at all toll booths informing the commuters of this benefit.
“The initiative is to mark International Women’s Day and honour all women. They can avail the facility after midnight on March 7 to midnight the next day,” said Anwar Abbasi, DND spokesperson.
A commuter has to pay Rs 28 for a one-way commute in a four-wheeler and Rs 12 for a one-way commute on a two-wheelers. On a working day, nearly 1.20 lakh commuters use the flyway.
“We cannot say how many women will avail the facility. However, we can guess that at least 10% to 15% women will benefit from the move,” Abbasi said.
He said a good number of women drivers commute between Delhi and Noida.
“I think this is a good gesture on the part of the NTBCL. I drive to south Delhi via Noida every day and pay Rs 56 daily. Also, I won’t have to wait at the toll plaza to pay money,” said Sandhya Jain of Sector 37, Noida, adding that many women commute via DND every day.
Toll attendants will also be seen holding banners and hoardings at the toll booths informing women commuters that they won’t have to pay the toll.
