Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) now has a new vice chairperson, as Kanchan Verma, a 2005 batch IAS officer, took over charge for the post on Saturday.

She replaces former vice chairman Vijay Kumar Yadav, who is put on waiting list by the state government during a reshuffle last week.

The new vice chairman on Saturday said that her priority would be to ensure the projects are executed and completed on time. Verma said that a lot of people favour the NCR areas in anticipation that they will get what is promised in a time bound manner.

“It will be our priority to see that the ongoing projects are executed in a time bound manner and the new projects would begin with a view to be completed in a stipulated time frame. The development authority should do prior planning to execute projects according to the Master Plan. They should learn from the previous plans,” Verma said.

Verma said the development authority will ensure that the planning is done in accordance to the Master Plan. “The new projects will be evolved taking into consideration the requirements in future. These projects should be implemented keeping in mind our requirement for 25-30 years. A lot of people have shifted here expecting planned and time bound development,” she added.

Among the major challenges the new vice chairperson would face would be to expedite the funding for the 9.41 km Metro route under construction in Ghaziabad and to bail out GDA from the imminent fund crunch. She will also have to deal with the outcome of the ongoing CAG audit.

“I will get the major projects like the Metro reviewed and check up the financial position of the authority. Thereafter, proper steps will be taken up,” Verma said.

Verma was previously the district magistrate of Mirzapur. She was awarded the Prime Minister’s award for Excellence in Public Administration for the year 2013-14. She received the appreciation for reviving the long dead Sasur Khaderi-2 rivulet and its origin Thithora lake in Fatehpur district, where she was posted as district magistrate in 2013.

She has also served as special secretary in infrastructure and industrial development department before being deputed as district magistrate of Mirzapur. Verma has also served at Balrampur, Bareilly and Sant Ravidas Nagar and was the chief development officer at Gautam Budh Nagar district during 2008-09.
