As many as 13 liquor smugglers have been arrested and raw liquor seized from separate areas in western Uttar Pradesh, police said on thursday.
In Ghaziabad, Loni Police on thursday arrested four liquor smugglers and seized 150 cartons of smuggled liquor. The arrested persons are Sanjay, Suresh, Jagjit and Kapur.
The truck in which they were carrying smuggled liquor was also seized, police said.
In Gautam Buddh Nagar, Jewar police arrested one Vimal from Charoli road and seized 30 bottles and 24 quarter bottles of smuggled liquor.
Dadri police arrested Mausin from T-crossing last night and seized 48 quarter bottles of smuggled liquor.
Saharanpur Dehat police arrested Misraj and Rakesh and seized four bottles each from them.
From Devla, one Rajesh was arrested with 18 bottles and 5 litre adulterated liquor.
Sarsava police has arrested two persons Brahampal and Pradip and seized 384 quarter bottles of smuggled liquor.
Nangal police arrested one Amardeep and seized 5 litre raw liquor.
Muzaffarnagar police arrested one Udey Pal from Kadipur road and seized 5 litre raw liquor.
"As liquor in Haryana is cheaper by 30 to 50 percent, liquor mafias smuggle Haryana-made liquor into Uttar Pradesh to earn quick bucks. They even adulterate it with adding chemicals and re-packing in new bottles," Kuldeep Yadav, District Excise Officer, Gautam Buddha Nagar said on thursday.
