Man held for abetting suicide of woman colleague in Noida

A 25-year-old software engineer who is employed with an IT company was arrested by the police in connection with the alleged suicide of a woman on Tuesday in Sector 62.
The police said the woman, 24-year-old Shweta Kumari, had come from Patna and worked at the company’s Sector 62 office. She lived with two women colleagues in an apartment in Shakti Kunj area of Sector 62, the police said.
Shweta allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday around 4pm by hanging from a ceiling fan in the apartment when her flatmates were at work. The police said the matter was reported to them when the two women returned and found the doors locked from the inside. Shweta had studied BTech in computer sciences from a university in Chennai.
The police suspect that she had committed suicide around 4pm on Tuesday and had not attended her office.
The flatmates knocked the doors repeatedly, but there was no response from the inside. They were frightened and called the victim but she did not respond to phone calls, following which they broke the door and saw her hanging from the fan, the police said.
The two women informed the police and a team rushed to the apartment. The police recovered a suicide note from the pocket of the victim, in which she had mentioned about her relationship with a man identified as Ankush Gandotra, a resident of Delhi.
The woman and Gandotra worked in the same company and Gandotra has been taken in for questioning now.
Station house officer of Sector 58 police station, Anil Pratap Singh, said, “The deceased mentioned that she was in a relationship with Gandotra for the last two years. In the note, she stated that he had impregnated her. It was also mentioned that she came to know Gandotra was getting married to someone else. When she asked him to marry her, Gandotra refused and this could have led her to commit suicide.”
Gandotra was arrested from his house in Rohini area of Delhi and a case of abetment to suicide was registered against him. He was produced in court and sent to judicial custody, Singh added.
After receiving information about their daughter, the woman’s parents reached Noida and the body was handed over to them. Shweta’s father said, “She was working with TCS since 2015 and Gandotra was also there. She had talked to me about her friendship with him.”
