The city police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly molesting a four-year-old girl, police said on Sunday. The accused, identified as Shyam Singh, had allegedly molested the girl on October 26.
“The victim’s father was not at his residence when the incident occurred. He got to know about the incident only when he returned on Saturday. His daughter disclosed that the accused had molested her when she was alone,” said Pankaj Pant, station house officer, Phase 3 police station.
“A case under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered at the Phase 3 police station, he added.
After the FIR was lodged, the police team raided Singh’s residence Chhijarsi village in Noida. However, the police tracked the location of his mobile phone.
“The accused was arrested from Phase 3 area when he was trying to flee the city. He was produced in the local court and sent to jail,” said Pant.
Police said Singh is a gardener who works for various companies and households.
“Officials from the child welfare committee (CWC) were called for counselling the girl. She was sent for a medico-legal test. The test report indicates some scratches on her body which could have been made by the accused,” Pant said.
The police said that during his questioning, Singh had admitted to molesting the girl.
“He said he had spotted the victim alone at her residence. He lured her with a chocolate and then molested her,” said Pant.
“We are waiting for the statement of the victim. The officials of CWC are likely to submit her statement soon,” Pant added.
The victim’s parents are from eastern Uttar Pradesh and work as daily-wage labourers. They stay in a rented accommodation at Chhijarsi village.
