Colleagues and acquaintances of suspended IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal say that her honesty and dilligences earned her the dislike of many officers in her office.
“She was very studious. She had subscribed to several newspapers. She was aware about all areas of Greater Noida, before being posted in this city. She was so honest that her staff at office used to hate her,” said an acquaintance of Durga's.
Officials said that many of her staff and policeman, who carried out drives against the sand mafia, are happy with her suspension.
“Since she was honest most of her staff members including policemen were unhappy with her. They are now happy because they can earn bribes from small time sand mafia or other works, which they earlier could not do,” said another official.
Greater Noida is home for Nagpal, who served for 11 months as sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of city's Sadar area.
Nagpal along with her parents was staying in Greater Noida’s Jalvayu Vihar locality for past 4 years said neighbours.
“She prepared and passed civil services exam from Jalvayu Vihar only. When she had cleared her exams and had become an IAS, her father was so overwhelmed that he distributed sweets in the entire locality. After her training in the IAS academy, and serving briefly in Mohali, she shifted to Greater Noida’s AWHO society located next to Jalvayu Vihar,” said a neighbor, requesting anonymity.
Married to 2011 batch IAS officer Abhishek Singh, Nagpal moved to her new house in AWHO right after getting married. She was posted as SDM Sadar in Greater Noida.
She met her husband in Mukherjee Nagar, where the both studied for civil service exams said sources.
