In view of the MCD elections in Delhi, liquor shops in Noida up to one kilometre from the Delhi border will remain closed from 5pm on Friday till 5pm on Sunday, Kuldeep Yadav, district excise officer, Gautam Budh Nagar said on Friday.

Sunday is the polling day for municipal elections in Delhi.

“Fourteen liquor vends and a restaurant-cum-bar falling in this (one-km) range will be affected. All these establishments selling/serving liquor in sectors 1, 5, 8,11 and adjoining areas that fall within the one-km range will remain closed. One restaurant bar — Bercos Garden in Sector 12 — will also remain closed as it is within the prohibited area,” said Yadav.

“The Naya Bans Sector 15 shop will remain open as it is located more than a km away from the Delhi border. Excise inspector Upinder Singh and other team members physically inspected the distance of shops from the border,” said Yadav.

One liquor shop in Ashok Nagar at the border with Noida’s Sector 1 will also remain closed. This shop affects over 20% of the liquor sale in Noida.

The Gautam Budh Nagar excise department expects an increase in revenue in the 48 hours after Friday. As Saturday and Sunday are dry days in Delhi, liquor sale at the Naya Bans shop is expected to increase. Sector 18 bars also expect customers from Delhi.
