The Noida Metro Rail Corporation, in a bid to improve last-mile connectivity options from metro stations, is planning to set up a bicycle stand at metro stations across the city.

Officials said that once the bicycle stands are set up, commuters coming to the city can avail the bicycles on rent for short trips. Officials said that the cycle stands will also be set up in group housing complexes and markets for easy commute.

Officials said that a study of the footfall of commuters at the existing metro stations of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been done ahead of starting the service. They will decide the number of cycles to be made available at each metro station based on the average footfall.

NMRC officials said that another motive for launching this facility is to encourage people towards cycling and in turn, create a pollution-free environment. As per the plan, 50 bicycle stands will be set up at present, and more locations are being identified for setting up bicycle stands. The service will be operated by a private agency, after a tender process.

Officials said that the residents would be able to rent bicycles from residential areas and travel to the nearest metro stations, offices and other places. Commuters can also rent a bicycle through their rechargeable metro smart card.

SC Gaur, the general manager (planning), NMRC, said, “We will be covering all metro stations as well as residential areas. The service will provide a great experience to users. The cycles will be given on rent after obtaining the user’s information. The service will be started from the operational metro stations.”

Every bicycle stand will have 10-25 sporty bicycles for men and women, officials said.
